Mooncake

Today is an important Chinese holiday–Moon Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival. It is kind of like Thanksgiving here, families get together and celebrate the unity. Why is it called Moon Festival you might ask, it is because that moon represents love for your home and families. when you look at the moon, it makes you miss your home and families if you are away, because they are looking at the same moon but you are not with them, you feel like you share the same moon and are connected with your families. That’s why it’s called moon festival. This is not the history of of the festival, it is just how people interpret it nowadays.

And mooncake is something we eat as a tradition during the moon festival, I would love to show you a picture of one but it was sold out in my asian market. It is very exquisite looking, its round pastries that represent the moon and unity, about 3-4 inches in diameter, the thin crusts are normally filled with different types of fillings, such as red  beans, egg yolk or lotus seed paste.
